The Mazury Airport in Szymany is currently temporarily suspended in its operations. The company managing the Mazury Airport in Szymany Airport is also currently inactive. The company managing the airport, Port Lotniczy Mazury sp. z o.o. (formerly: Porty Lotnicze "Mazury-Szczytno" sp. z o.o.) began works on transforming the airport from the international category 3C to 4D, so as to enable it to provide a window to the world for the whole of the Warmia and Mazury province - a region rich with natural tourist attractions and with interesting investment opportunities.
The Mazury Airport is located 10 km from the city center of Szczytno and 58 km from Olsztyn, the capital of the region. Within a radius of 70 km there are attractive tourist centers such as Mrągowo, Mikołajki, Giżycko, Gierłoż. There is also the Polish-Russian border crossing in Bezledy, at a distance of about 110 km from the airport. The airport lies in a land of unique forests and of a thousand beautiful Mazurian lakes - being the only airport capable to handle both domestic and international air traffic within the Warmia Mazury region.
The length of the airport along its runway axis is approximately 4,660 m, whereby there is about 960 m from its southern border to the threshold of the runway. The length of the runway itself is 2,000 m. From the northern border of the airport to the threshold of the runway there is about 1,700 m. The width of the area of the airport varies from about 1,500 m to approximately 2,100 m.
